it's a succulent & lemon bar kind of day

Hello! This is my first blog post that I created in hopes of pushing myself to take out my camera every day and find inspiration in things around me.

Since today is Memorial Day, I had the afternoon off and with all this time on my hands, I decided to make some homemade, classic lemon bars. There's something so sweet about a classic lemon bar that is reminiscent of summer. I just couldn't help myself. On top of the lemon bars, we recently just purchased a beautifully refurbished coffee table - which is going to be the perfect new photo-op spot in the apartment! Here is the final product.

Look at the powdered sugary goodness!

On the other hand - we also have some beautiful succulents and a little cacti. The cacti must be loving its new home because it's started to bloom! I just had to document the small flowers in the beautiful afternoon light that was coming through the apartment.

These were shot with my 50mm lens, which I bought a little over a year ago. It's my first prime lens, but definitely my favorite lens that I have, although it is still taking some time to become accommodated with it. It's (obviously) extremely different than working with my kit lens which is 18-55mm, but about six years old. The 50mm has some of the best glass and its focus is so much better than my 18-55mm lens. There will definitely be more posts of photographs shot with the 50mm, so I can continue to grow while using it.

Thanks for reading and I hope you come back for more!
